I have a multisite network setup for my website and my clients using WP 4.0.

    eg. https://www.mydomain.com.au, client1.mydomain.com.au, client2.mydomain.com.au, etc.

I’ve set up a redirect to a number of these sites with no problems.

Until recently this scenario has been fine for most clients, many are pro bono or small enterprises and don’t need a dedicated server.

I have however had a request from one client to move his entire site to his server. Can anyone recommend the best way to do this?

I’ve researched into BackupBuddy and BackWPup but before purchasing would like to know if one is better than the other and if it will move a subdomain seamlessly to a new domain.

    i.e. client1.mydomain.com.au to https://www.clientdomain.com.au

Being fairly new to WP I now know I may have to add how to create a ‘Sandbox’ on my next list of things to do.

I have used BackupBuddy to do this with a number of sites. I don’t have any experience with BackWPup. While the BUB team still officially classifies this as beta feature, they do offer some support for it.

The MS Export feature should be visible in the dash of any subsite, and the migration after that is the same process as the migration for any single site with BUB.

It IS possible to do this manually: https://halfelf.org/2013/breaking-up-multisite/. I find that the BUB route is faster and since I’m not a database ninja, easier for me.

    Thanks Bet

Exactly the advice I was after. I was concerned about BUB as their site mentioned it is only beta but good to know they do offer support for it.

I use iThemes Security and would prefer to ‘keep it in the family’.

I’m like you and am not keen on the manual option but good to know it exists, thanks again.

Sounds like you got what you needed here, so I will go ahead and mark this support request as resolved. Good luck with your migration!
