Hi. Bear with me because I’m a carpenter, not an IT professsional. I’ve just upgraded to WordPress 4.0 and Nextgen gallery Version 2.0.66.29. I also added a couple of pictures to the gallery. Since then, a few things don’t work. Clicking next page in a gallery has no effect. Clicking on a thumbnail image results in a 404 File error. When I lookat the url it is shows https://www.pegdecking.com/index.php/index.php/gallery/nggallery etc. i.e. There is an extar “index.php” in the url. The same thing happens when I press the slide show button – i.e I get a 404 error and the url shows the extra “index.php”. I tried “Reset all options to Default” and “Clear Image cache”. Help please.

@deckingman – I would suggest setting your Permalinks to something other than the “Default” under Settings > Permalinks. Try something like “Post name” or “Month and name” as alternatives.

Then go under Gallery > Other Options > Miscellaneous and clear the image cache.

@photocrati – Hi and thanks for taking the time.

I checked the Permalinks settings and they were already set to “Post Name” giving me “/index.php/%postname%/ in the little box at the bottom. I cleared the image cache again. Interestingly, clicking on a thumbnail in the gallery now works. i.e I get to see the larger image. However, clickin on the “Show as slideshow” button still results in the 404 error withe extra “/index.php” appearing in the url. Also, clicking next or a pager number in the gallery view still does nothing so I am only able to view the first (in this case 40) thumbnails. I tried setting the number of thumbnails per page to 0 which gave me one big page but about thre quarters of the way down, the images were a bit jumbled with gaps between them. Hope that helps.

    Hi,
I am having the same problem. Permalinks set to “Post name” and have cleared image cache. I can see images when I click on the thumbnails, that’s all working ok, but when I click on the next page, I get the 404 error and the extra index.php/index.php.

Also, gallery is set to display 20 thumbnails per page across 5 columns, but is only displaying 4 columns. I have decreased thumbnail size but that didn’t help.
    Thanks

Changing Permalinks back to “default” seems to have fixed the pagination problem, however the column still stands. I have adjusted the columns to 4 but I should be able to fit at least 5 columns across. Any advice on how I can make the thumbnails fit across the full width of the page would be appreciated.
    Thanks

@deckingman – Have you tried removing index.php from the Permalinks?

@photocrati – I wasn’t sure how to remove index.php from the permalinks (as I said, I’m a carpenter and also in my 6th decade so I struggle a bit with IT). However, I noticed that “Default” doesn’t have index.php so I set the Permalinks to that. Lo and behold, it all now works!

So basically, the solution was to set the Permalinks to “Default” and not to some other setting.

I’ve no idea why this worked – I’ll leave the explanation to those who are more knowledgeable. There may be some other solution but this fixed it for me so I’m happy.

Many thanks for your help. I’ll leave it a day or two then mark this post as “Resolved”.
