• Wow, I’m having a hell of time here. First off, why is there no number to call to speak with a person who can actually help? Here or at Hostmonster where I’ve spent way too long on hold waiting for support help to answer.
Ok, yesterday morning my website worked fine. My blog post worked fine. Then I went to let plugin update and my site crashed. I finally figured out how to restore it through hostmonster, only for wordpress to repeatedly tell me my username is invalid. Which is not true, it is the only username I’ve used. I can’t get into my dashboard or anything. And now my website is back to giving me a 500 error, even though I restored it this morning and all the pages worked fine. Please help! There has got to be a way to get into my site through hostmonster but what little help I can find by looking this stuff up makes zero sense to me. I am a writer not a computer techie. I need literally step by step help here.

WordPress is a free software. There support for WordPress comes from contributors like me. The is no one on staff, people just answer support questions as they wish.

    Now for your problem…

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via FTP or SFTP, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

I would assume that you have FTP access right?
