After changes were made in file permissions, our blog demanded a password from visitors. This problem left the blog unstable and required hosting service support to ‘reset’ the permissions and remove all .htaccess files.

After the permissions were reset, our WordPress 2.1.2 site works perfectly, but postings subsequent to the removal of the .htaccess files are not searchable and are not seen using the Technorati advanced search tools.

New postings do show up in our FireFox RSS display, but not on any of the blog search engines.

How do the blog search tools know when new postings are made?
