Using WordPress 3.0.1; Error: "You do not have sufficient permissions to access"

Trying to back up an out of date wordpress 3.0.1 site, so that I can safely attempt upgrade. plugin installed ok but when I try to run any kind of backup it shows a page with the message “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”
Any ideas.
