Jetpack reindexing hangs at 44% or 43%

I’ve been having a bunch of problems with Jetpack after upgrading our server to Mac OS X 10.10/Server 4.0 and I’ve filed an extensive report with the mechanism within the plugin.
I’ve managed to find workarounds for most of my problems, but now I’ve got one I can’t fix. Jetpack reindexing is hanging.
Yesterday I requested a reindex of our development/staging server. It quickly hung at 44%. Where it remains now, more than 24 hours later.
After dinking around on our production server I uninstalled Jetpack, turned off all plugins, removed all the cruft from the wp_options MySQL table, reinstalled Jetpack, logged into WordPress.com and authenticated (after adding define( ‘JETPACK_CLIENT__HTTPS’, ‘NEVER’ ); to my wp-config.php file).
I turned on the Related Posts module, configured it, and requested a reindex on the Jetpack debug page. It hung at 43% far too long and now it’s hung, again at 44%, for several hours.
