"Failed to send message" error

  • I’m having a problem where I fill in the form, hit “Submit” and I get this error message:

    Failed to send your message. Please try later or contact the administrator by another method.

    Everything is correct in the information I’m submitting, but I get this message and I do not get an email response.

    The registration, however, does show up in the database, I just don’t get an email confirmation.

    I’m using version 4.0.1 of Contact Form and version 4.0 of WordPress. You can find an example of the form here: https://www.vistaridgedriving.com/dates/november-10-2014/

    I posted this question on the Contact Form DB forum and was told to update the plugins and WP, which I did, but I’m still not getting anything.

    Anybody else see this problem?

  • First uninstall and reinstall the plugin and make sure you have generated forms correctly. Misconfigured forms won’t send any email.

    UPDATE: Through a bit of sleuthing, I’ve determined that the error is of the “# Sender’s message was failed to send” variety and not the spam kind.

    I’ve had some issues logging in and have had to create a new account, but rest assured this is Jim, the frustrated guy who posted the original problem.

    So the hosting company says I had to install Configure SMTP, which I did. But that didn’t fix anything.

    I’m using a Gmail account for the “from” and “reply-to,” and thought I might have some issues due to this issue, but that wasn’t the case.

    I can’t configure anything server-wise because I don’t have access to the control panel.

    I’m worried about uninstalling and re-installing the plugin because I don’t want what I’ve created to disappear.

    Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do next?
