Programmatically Translate a Custom Taxonomy?

Is there a way of programmatically setting a custom taxonomy as translated by Polylang? (i.e. checking the checkbox for the custom taxonomy on the settings screen?)

Rationale: I’m writing a plugin that provides several custom taxonomies for a network of translators and interpreters. All my custom taxonomies should be translated by Polylang, and at the moment when I install the plugin and set up the taxonomies, I then need to go in manually and check all the boxes on the settings screen. It’d be much nicer if I could do this automatically during the install.
