• When trying to update WordPress SEO, I get this error message:

An error occurred while updating WordPress SEO: The package could not be installed. PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) : Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature

Consequently, I am not able to update the plugin.

Any suggestions on what I can do?

    Thanks!

  • I just received this exact same error on one of the many sites I manage, and have done a little reading on the subject.

As I understand it, this means that the zip file which contains the update could not be expanded. Most common reasons I have read indicate that it is either because the zip is corrupt, or because the server ran out of disk space.

I ran the update a second time, and it worked, indicating that the zip was likely corrupted when downloading the first time.

Try updating again, and if you receive the same error, check with your host and see if you have reached your disk usage quota. You might just have hit the disk space limit on your account.

Thanks so much Richard. I got the same error too and all it took was re-updating it a second time for it to work. whew! That was easy ??
