… hi, Kathryn; appreciate your note, thank yoU, YAY ?? !!!…
( the proof of the fix is here )
~ so much for “user intuition”… oddly; the site editor’s link tool works ( or appears to work ) with no previous selection of content, and equally appears to be inserting the link text via the “Title” cell in the widget window… then, to the untrained eye, the code that gets generated appears to have the necessary components…
~ also note that link insertion within support forums posts like this one work differently than the link insertion tool within your site’s editor… ( just look at the first post’s link in this thread )… this adds to the confusion in that if you don’t follow Kathryn’s simple directions you get a completely different error set with no instructional help…
~ while i’m new to WP i am not new to using blog engines and have yet to have this much difficulty inserting a link… ever… another gentleman kindly replied to a different post relating to the issue, but didn’t suggest, Kathryn, what you highlighted…
~ where i was headed to fix this issue was a cumbersome exploration of updates, browser types, tests from other machines, etc., etc…. and possibly away from WP altogether…
~ from a ui / ux perspective i would like to offer that having a widget appear to function when the first step of the process hasn’t been completed doesn’t quite follow good design practices… this could simply and easily work much better… particularly within an offer that seeks adoption from a mass market of people with little, or no experience… just sayin ?? !!!…
thank goodness for Kathryn, i was headed for a whole lot of work that i wasn’t looking forward to !!! – db
