When I add images to a MaxGallery, I go back to my WP Media Library and see that a duplicate has been made for each image. I’d really like to see a clean Media Library. Must I learn to live with a gigantic Media Library with numerous duplicates?

I’ve noticed they get a ‘1’ appended to their URL, and yet, when I edit the image from within the MaxGallery manager, I am seeing the original URL, and yet if I delete the images form the Media Library which have the ‘1’ appended to them, then my gallery disappears.

It’s confusing, and I have so many images I’m working with, that the Media Library is overwhelming with all these duplicates.

Interesting. We’ll take a look into this and see if we can narrow down why that’s happening.

    There is sequence:

    – I am in author role, WP 3.9.2, MG 2.3
    – New gallery
    – Add Images, pick from library (just one picture)
    – After Add to gallery is picture duplicated (in library)
    – Then pick another picture, same operation, next duplicat…
    – At end process I have 2 originals (owner is admin) and 2 duplicates (owner is me)

I checked the files in upload/2014 – it is totally copies with files (not only in library DB)

Is it duplicating it in the gallery as well or only in your media library?

I’ve discontinued the use of MaxGalleria. I installed Shortcodes Ultimate and I am able to achieve the look I want. I may go back to MG sometime for another project. Thank you for your replies.

Only in media library. Original image has no parent ID (is unattached), “copy file” has been attached to ID gallery…
I’ll try same thing in WP4.0

Update – sorry, but in WP4.0 same problem
    – I disabled ALL plugins (oh cause, except MaxGalleria ??
    – upload image in Media library by flash uploader
    – create gallery, press ADD Images
    – select this one picture an ADD to gallery
    – after adding i go to media library
    – there is two pictures, old without attach and new with attach to gallery

Sorry, but this is fatal for me. Any Ideas? ??

Thanks. We have a a fix for this in testing now. So we’re on it. We’ll let you know when it’s posted to the repo.

So we pushed a partial fix for this today. Like any plugin adding to the media library a duplicate file was created along with a second pointer to that file.

The plugin now doesn’t create the duplicate file. We’re working on dealing with the duplicate pointer.

Let us know if this helps with the issue and thanks for the feedback. We realize that having all of those files is a pain.

I have the same problem. I installed the last update but the duplication problem is now worse than ever.

I uploaded files to my media library then added them to a new gallery. They were all duplicated.

Before, any duplicated files were still showing up OK and I could just delete the duplicate. Now, when I view the image in the gallery, the image is broken.

I initially had the gallery set as a draft. I published it, to see if that would help, but I still have the problem.

knittingand, Unfortunately, duplicate images are not a MaxGallery problem; it is a problem in the way WordPress keeps track of items in the Media Library. Every item in the Media Library represents an attachment and normally each points to a unique image. Thus, when you add an image to a gallery from the Media Library WordPress creates a new attachment and a new copy of the image you selected.

Now in the latest version of MaxGallery we have changed this behavior to just copying an attachment and which points to the original image. Thus in the Media Library you might see duplicate images, but check the file name of each image and you will see that they are the same file. So when you delete a file and it no longer shows up in the gallery, it because you deleted the only actual copy of the image that was in the library.

I suggest when adding images to a gallery, you go to the gallery and upload them there rather then upload to the Media Library first and that way you will create only one attachment, the one that is used by the gallery.

I’ve updated to 2.6.1 from 2.2.2 and my images started to duplicate. had to restore previous version. In 2.2.2 there is no such Bug.

Yes, we are looking into this.

We believe the issue to be fixed and with such a large fix, we’ve decided to call the latest update version 3.0. Please update and let us know if it takes care of the duplicates issue.

I am using version 3.0 of MaxGalleria with WordPress 4.1 and am experiencing the duplication of images issue. I’m really bummed as I won’t be able to use this plugin for the site I’m creating as I already have all the images in the site and don’t care to re-do all the titling/alt text/description work to re-upload them.

    Hope this gets resolved soon.
