HELP!!! I know what I want…but I can't do it.

i sketched out in Photoshop what i have been trying to accomplish with themes on my homepage. I’ve tried unsuccessfully for two months to make this work. Please view desired layout here.

Basically, I want a slideshow background on the homepage with a side menu composed of gallery titles with thumbnails PLUS a simple text menu at the top.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
