    Hey there.

I’m completely confused how to set up Enhanced Ecommerce Tracking with your plugin and WooCommerce.

Do I have to create new tags with rules for each page of the ecommerce process in Google Tag Manager?

Or, does you plugin output the correct tracking code for each page type?

In Analytics there is an option to label funnel steps. Do I need to do that as well?

Any detailed instructions for integration and configuration would be appreciated.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your question.
It has been asked several times, I am working on a step-by-step guide on my website.

Can I ask for some more patience until this is completed?

    Thanks,
    Thomas

Sorry, I am not complete with it since there were some fixes in the code I had to care about. One more fix has to be implemented I can only start writing tutorials after that.

    Thanks for your patience.

    Hey duracelltomi.

Is the tutorial available yet or is there clear instructions on getting your plugin working with WooCommerce?

    Thank you so much duracelltomi!

    I’ll dig in today.

    Hi Duracelltomi,
thanks for your great tag plugin.

Is it possible you update your tutorial on https://duracelltomi.com/google-tag-manager-for-wordpress/how-to-articles/setup-enhanced-ecommerce-tracking ?

Its outdated, due to tag manager version 2.

Also for datalayering, an extra step must be done in GA itself? Add a costum dimension?

    Par example:

Step 6: setup product click tracking

Create a new rule in your Google Tag Manager setup
    Setup with {{event}} equals ‘gtm4wp.productClick’
    —–

    from https://support.google.com/tagmanager/answer/4605576
What has changed in the new interface?

The new interface is designed to make working with Google Tag Manager easier and more intuitive. However, there are a few changes that existing users should be aware of.

    Some items have been renamed:

    Rules have been renamed triggers
    Macros have been renamed variables

    And some features work differently:

Every trigger will have an associated event (such as a page view or a link click.)
There is a new category of variables called built-in variables. Built-in variables are designed to handle the most common types of needs and can quickly be enabled by the user. Learn more
Auto-Event Listener Tags are no longer needed. To fire a tag based on a click, simply create a trigger of type Click.

    —-
so step 6: what to do?
    —-
Step 6: setup product click tracking

Create a new tricker in your Google Tag Manager setup
    Choose what event? pageview/clicks??
    Setup with {{event}} equals ‘gtm4wp.productClick’

and then extra info how to setup the belonging event!
    —-

    help would be much appreciated.

First of all, thank you for your great tutorial. I finally figured out how to use google tag manager in wordpress.
Same problem here: the tutorial is a bit outdated. Have you in program some updates?
    Thank you again.

Finally I had some free time to update the article ??

#1 Corrected new naming convention like rule->trigger
    #2 Added screenshots
#3 Simplified helper events with only one event trigger using regex matching

    Thanks for your generous patience!

    wow, great, thank you.
A question about your last sentence:

“Note: this tag is going to be a ‘messenger’. The goal of this tag is not to populate Event reports with useful data but to pass additional enhanced ecommerce product data next to your event settings”

What setting makes an event a messenger?

    Plugin Author Thomas Geiger

    (@duracelltomi)

The term ‘messenger’ is not being used quite often. Generally not every Analytics command sends data to the Google servers. A data send is being called as a ‘hit’. A hit is being generated for example on pageload or when you send a GA event.

The general goal for this tag is to send the enhanced ecommerce data when the user clicks on a product link or on a cart button but there is no such command that sends a hit just with the enhanced ecommerce data.

This is why I call this GA event tag a ‘messanger’ as it generate a hit which can include the product click/add-to-cart/etc. data as well. The purpose of this GA event is not to store something useful in the GA events report but to send enhanced ecommerce data next to the event data.

    Thanks for the clarification.
Is the ‘messenger’ a setting in google tag manager or due to the fact how the datalayer for thsi event is generated?

I ask this because in a non-wordpress configuration I need to setup enhanced ecommerce with the standard datalayer. I do not understand how tag manager ‘knows’ when itsa normal event taging and when its a ‘messenger’ for the enhanced ecommerce reports.
I know that the steps 1,2,3 etc are involved so I think you build this in in the datalayer and based on that option, the datalayer messenger pushes its data to the enhanced ecommerce reports without special setting in the tag manager (apart from checking the button ‘enhanced ecommece’ like you show in https://duracelltomi.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2015/01/gtm4wp-enable-enhanched-ecommerce-in-pageview-tag.png )

    Plugin Author Thomas Geiger

    (@duracelltomi)

There is no such setting, ‘messenger’ is just my idea.
It is all about hits. If you setup a GA event tag to include enhanced ecommerce data and you add this data to the dataLayer, it will work with or without WordPress.

If the term ‘messenger’ is confusing for you, simple ignore it ?? I just wanted to outline that this GA event tag is not there to include details about the event in the GA ‘event category’ / ‘event action’ / ‘event label’ params.

    Hi Duracelltomi,

First, thank you for creating this amazing plugin.

I am hoping you can help me with a couple of issues related to integrating Google Tag Manager + Woocommerce + Google Analytics Enhanced Commerce.

I’ve setup the above integration per your Google Tag Manager plugin, and your most recent Enhanced Commerce integration instructions. However, only some of transaction data we need is sending to our Google Analytics ecommerce account (in the reports section).

The following data IS appearing in our GA account:
‘Product’ name (but NOT ‘Product List Name’)
    ‘Transaction ID’
    ‘Quantity’
    ‘Transaction’ amount

The sales data, null. Could you offer some suggestions as to why the following data isn’t populating, and possible solutions?

    1) Revenue
    2) Tax amount
    3) Shipping amount

Also, I didn’t take any action on the step (#4) in your instructions for “deactivating the transaction tag” in GTM. Yes, we’re using Universal Analytics, and all of our tags are firing, but this step was slightly confusing to me. Maybe part of the problem?

    Thank you,
    Daniel
