I want to post a You Tube video on my self-hosted wordpress blog. For this, You Tube says I need an API key from wordpress. It’s supposed to be listed on the profile page in WP, but I don’t see anything there. What do I do and how can I get/find my API key? Thanks!

  • you don’t need an api key… i know it says you do, but you don’t…

on the youtube page which has the video you want to place on your blog, in the box directly to the right of the video it should say something like

    Tags
    Url
    Embed

Take the stuff in the embed box and paste it directly into your blog post.

edit: don’t know if this will work… if you’re worried about validations take the part which says <embed src... and change the “embed” to “object”… do the same for the </embed> tag at the end… that should make it valid html… no promises on that though.

    that’s it.

I tried pasting the “embed” code right into my wordpress post, but when I click the publish button no video appears. The embed code is in the post, but you can’t see it. Do I need a plugin of some kind to make you tube work in wordpress? Or do I need to fix something else?

    link to site?

As you can see, the you tube code completely distorts my blog layout, but the video itself does not appear.

OKAY… I got it figured out. All I had to do was turn off the WYSIWYG editor before I pasted the you tube code into the post. ??

Just got back from lunch… looks like you got it figured out… I should go to lunch more often…

    Have anything good?

    I liked it

    mongolian grill and sushi…
