• Hey everyone, I am a bit stuck here.

I wanted to copy a site to another domain to make a few changes to it and have a new url.

i setup the new url and installed wordpress. opened wp-config to find out what database it was.

I exported the old database and imported it to the database listed in the new site’s wp-config file

then i used ftp to download all the old site files and then uploaded them to the new site

I assumed this would make everything work but now when i go to the new site I just get the sample wordpress page.

Any idea where i went wrong?

Thanks so much guys for all of your support and insight.

  • Hey yeah so inside of WordPress Admin (I believe its Settings => General) there is an entry to say where the website is actually located (I.E.) the URL. If you are trying to keep the current site then you need to go into your Database and find the entry for where the URL is and change it to the new one. Else you can just change it in the admin of the first one, export the db, and then do all the other steps you completed.
