The Events Calendar – French translation's massive update

I proudly present you my last 2-days work: a big update of the french translation for The Events Calendar plugin.

– Correction of french typographic rules issues (poncution spaces, ponctuation,…).
– Correction of non sens sentences.
– Correction of inconsistencies (ponctuations, terms,…).
– Correction of “out-of-the-boxes” translations issues.
– Complete translation of states names.

– Complete review of translation bugs (see below).

– Translation issues encountered :

• Event restored to revision from %s → Context missing. What %s is referring for? Current translation does not sound right.
• Venue restored to revision from %s → Context missing. What %s is referring for?
• Organizer restored to revision from %s → Context missing. What %s is referring for?
• Invalid or incomplete field passed → Context missing. Can you rephrase “passed”, please?
• Non-existant field validation function passed → Context missing. Can you rephrase “passed”, please? Do we agree that it is the function of validation which has passed?
• %s must have a value that’s part of its options. → Context missing. Is it really ‘its’ options? Or ‘these’?
• %s cannot be the same as %s. → Context missing. I need to know the genre of the first %s to translate properly in french. Male by default.
• %s must consist of 5 numbers. → Context missing. Is it exactly 5 or more than 5? Past translation means “at least” 5!

Add a small text only link at the bottom of your calendar pointing to The Events Calendar project. → Duplicate of a previous one just for a “-” in “text-only”!
• Event updated. → Duplicate of a previous entry “Event updated. View event.”

On calendar/Events display :

– Filter bar: ‘Day’ from view toogle stay in english. (See below.)
– Filter bar: add a size trigger to display only view type’s icons ?
– Filter bar: <div id=”tribe-bar-view”> should be heigther : <div id=”tribe-bar-views”> overflows.
– Filter bar: should it be more developpers friendly to use css flexbox ?
– Filter bar: disturbing margin-left for <div class=”tribe-bar-submit”>.
– Day view: plugin switch to english except events preview.
Day view: “all day” is not in the translation file.
– Category view: “No matching events listed under ________. Please try viewing the full calendar for a complete list of events.” is not translated.

– On tiny screens, “Events for”+date and “Find out more” are not translated.

On Dashbord :

# Edit/Add new events pages
– ‘Venue’ & ‘Organizator’ translations are fetched too soon causing serious translation troubles:
-→ “Use Saved Lieu” <->”Lieu pré-enregistré”
-→ “Use New Lieu” <-> “Nouveau lieu”
-→ “No saved lieu exists.” <-> “Aucun lieu pré-enregistré.”
-→ “Use Saved Organisateur” <-> “Organisateur pré-enregistré”
-→ “Use New Organisateur” <-> “Nouvel Organisateur”
-→ “No saved organisateur exists.” <-> “Aucun organisateur pré–enregistré.”
-→ “Search Venues”: “Search Lieux” is displayed. It should be “Rechercher des lieux”.
-→ Add New Organizator: “Add New Organisateur” is displayed. It should be “Nouvel organisateur”.
-→ “No organizer found”: “No organisateurs found” is displayed instead of “Aucun organisateur”.
-→ In “Event Organizer Details” : “Use Saved Organisateur”, “No saved organisateur exists”, “Organisateur Name” are miss-translated.

– “before/after cost” options (about devise symbol) are not translated.

# Settings
## General settings
– Useless redundancy : “Looking for additional functionality including recurring events, ticket sales, publicly submitted events, new views and more?” in the general settings page and “Looking for additional functionality including recurring events, custom meta, community events, ticket sales and more?” in Edit/Add new events pages. Can’t you just use the same block?

## Display settings
– “Date Format Settings” section is not translated: it does not appear in the PO file.
– The word ‘Day’ is not in the PO file. Causing trouble in the view bar options.

As I read your request, I will translate The Events Calendar Pro next few days. Although it may be really helpful having the Pro plugin before doing it (for context issues). Could it be arranged?

– Correction of inconsistency in short sentences-links punctuation. (You should have a look on your side too!)
– “Find out more”‘s translation improved.
– Other sentences translation improved.

I still have an issue:
“Events List Navigation” → Context missing. I am not sure my translation is correct.

• Create a custom plain language description of the recurrence. Leave it blank and we’ll automate it. → Oh gosh! I really need to see this live.

• Hide related events → Not sure that ‘related’ has been translated correctly. Context missing.
• Customize Defaults → “Modifier les valeurs par défaut du formulaire” may be a better translation. Context missing.
• These settings change the default event form. […]. → “[…] changer les valeurs par défaut du formulaire” may be a better translation. Context missing.
• Default Organizer for Events → ‘Events’ may be ‘calendier’. Context missing.
• Default Venue for Events → ‘Events’ may be ‘calendier’. Context missing.
• No Default → Missing context. I tried my best shot here.
• State (US) Or Province (Int) → Why (US) & (Int) suddently?
• Monthly custom recurrences cannot have a dash set as the day to occur on. → Context missing. What is a dash, here? Can you rephrase “to have a dash”, please?

– Inconsistency between “Events Calendar PRO” and “+The+ Events Calendar PRO”.
– Shouldn’t it be better to use ‘Premium’ instead of ‘PRO’? ‘PRO’=professional… isn’t it too restrictive?
– Silly duplicate found : “A valid license key is required for support and updates” and “A valid license key is required for support and updates+.+“ (yeah, just the final dot!)
– It is Google Map+s+! (again ?? )
– As reported by the last translator, there may be a HTML tags issue in “Use additional fields to add unique content fields to the event admin, which can be used by anyone who creates events. Upon publication they’ll appear in the event metabox that accompanies your event listing, alongside the date/time/venue/organizer/etc. </p><p>Each new piece of data needs:”. Can you check <p></p> tags?

Thanks so much for helping out with the French translation. I checked out your files and comments. It looks like you updated the translation with an outdated .pot file, which is why a lot of those strings are missing. I updated your files so they have the very latest strings. You can download those at https://cloudup.com/c34WgkPqx1o.

If you’d like to have your translations added to our plugin, please update the files in there. Then upload them again and I can test them and get them added for our next version. When you’re done, please post in our our Translation Forum. Thanks for all your work!

Oh. What a pity! I did use one of yours posted link. One of the translator’s guide must be out of date…
Anyway, I just moved from France to Okinawa. So I will be happy to re-translate The Event Calendar /PRO in few days.

Can you confirm me that the files you just gave me are the ones for the new plungins’ version (3.8)?

Yeah I am sorry for the delay. The fact is that I just moved to the far side of the world! I have the Internet only since few days and only on smartphone… because of this I can’t use context to tranlate the plug-in.

And the last file you gave me is far more difficult to translate than past ones. Plus, last updates have been really quick and pov files changed a lot, making translation works a bit discouraging…

Still, I want and I will do it, when I’ll finally got the Internet at home.

Even with your last translation file, I still have an issue while changing the month in the month view, or switching to the month view : it’s getting filtered with Recherche…
