Selecting some customise options has no effect

  • Please excuse yet another post from this newbie…

    When I try to customise theme some of the checkboxes do not seem to produce any noticeable effect, specifically:

    Display breadcrumbs
    Either of the Responsive checkboxes
    Any of the Image checkboxes (Retina support has not been assessed as I do not know anyone with this functionality. I have however checked that box as being available)

    There’s probably something obvious I’m missing that I’ve been through the customise menu several times and can’t find any simple way to make these functions operate.

    Any help appreciated.

  • Breadcrumbs are the things like the “Home ? Full width” at the top of this page.

    Responsiveness:

    – Enable/disable blocks reordering on small devices: This shifts the left sidebar after the content if you’re viewing the site on a phone (the right sidebar is always after the content anyway). You aren’t using a left sidebar, so you won’t see any effect. Turn it off.

    – Enable/disable slider’s slides centering on any devices: You don’t appear to be using a slider, so you won’t see any effect. Turn it off.

    Images:

    – The lightbox effect is currently switched on. See the effect by clicking on the first image on this page. The “lightbox” shows your images. Now switch it off and see the difference.

    – The autoscale on zoom setting is important on mobiles if you have the lightbox on. Otherwise, someone can zoom the site on their phone and then click an image and not be able to see the little X at the top right to switch it off.

    – Retina support: many (most?) modern smartphones have this level of resolution. If you have high-res images, you can turn this on and the images will look better on a phone. The downside is that the images delivered to the phone over the mobile network will be bigger and the site will be slower.

    High-end laptops also have retina and it’ll be coming to more desktops soon as the prices of 4K displays come down.
