• Hiya

I’m really new to WordPress and a complete beginner (i.e. really have no idea what people mean when they talk about editing texts and scripts writing – just to set the level I’m working at..). I have been following YouTube videos throughout.

I managed to install wordpress yesterday to my Mac using MAMP (yay), I tried today to start editing the site. I managed to create a static homepage but when I went to try and change the name of my home page I went to settings and changed the title and URL. This then meant that I could no longer get into word press. This error Error establishing a database connection came up

To try and change this I tried to go through php my admin, but now I realise somewhat stupidly I found the changes in wp options. Here I deleted the changes ( I now realise that was pretty dumb)..

I have tried re-installing wordpress. Lots of sites keep talking about wp-config.

Basically it’s a bit of a mess. As there is no content on my site yet I am happy to start all over, just need to know how to do that properly as the reinstall alone didn’t work.

Any super clear instructions/ advice would be sooo appreciated as I have already spent 2 days on this and determined to make it work!

  • I am sure that you never saw a utube video telling to change your site URL.
Change the title all you want, just leave the Site URL and WordPress Address alone.
There are ways of rescuing your situation, but they involve editing files and so on.
So this time just delete everything, delete the database, and start again.
