    Hi all,

I am really new at all this, so please bear with me.

I am using the WP-Diva accidental gray/grey theme and the categories on the side keep repeating. I have looked at the code but I am scared to fiddle with it and mess it up. Any help would be much appreciated. (I couldn’t find any other questions in my searches.) You can see the problem here: https://www.blogforbusiness.com/

    TIA.

The problem is in the sidebar file for the theme. You must have edited it. What did you change recently around the time the problem started? I’ll download the theme and take a look at it.

This is a widgetized theme. If you look at the Sidebar Widgets in WP Admin (under Presentation), do you have anything in the Sidebar I column?

I edited the CSS file to change the margins on the posts. I fiddled with the theme I had before this one but didn’t think that would make any difference with a new theme.

In the Sidebar I column, I have Calendar, Archives, Categories, Recent Comments. When I click on each one, nothing is checked or filled in on the windows that come up.

    Thanks for the reply.

If you validate your page, you’ll see errors with the post on single women. It may be if you fix the href in it, you’re problem will disappear.

Thank you – I will try that and see if it works.

I did validate my page and made some changes in the code, however I am still getting an error and can’t figure out where to fix it.
    The errors are:

    # Error Line 276 column 136: document type does not allow element “ul” here; missing one of “object”, “applet”, “map”, “iframe”, “button”, “ins”, “del” start-tag.

    …sts filed under Customer Service”>

The mentioned element is not allowed to appear in the context in which you’ve placed it; the other mentioned elements are the only ones that are both allowed there and can contain the element mentioned. This might mean that you need a containing element, or possibly that you’ve forgotten to close a previous element.

One possible cause for this message is that you have attempted to put a block-level element (such as “<p>” or “<table>”) inside an inline element (such as ““, “<span>”, or “<font>”).

      ?

I cannot find the place to edit this in my template – can anyone help?

    Thanks again.

I checked out your site and see that you have cleaned up a lot of problems. However, I don’t see the error you reference above.

What version of WP are you using?

    (@rgfwriter)

That is part of the problem – I get this error on validating the page but don’t see it in the web page i.e. I can find “filed under Customer Service” in the code, but it doesn’t appear on the page itself.

I also noticed that the Categories are still repeating, but less than before.

I am not sure how to find out which version I am using – at the bottom of the pages it says 2.1 – 0.38 seconds – does that mean version 2.1?

Yes, that is WP2.1. I just registered on your site to see if I can get any more clues to help.

The categories repeat the same number of times as the number of categories.

You’ve made changes to the theme files and need to check the sidebar file if that is where the categories list is generated.

I looked at my site again now and see that the categories are repeating a number of times, not just 3. I also looked through all the files and cannot find anything that I could connect to the categories. If you tell me what to look for, maybe I can post the code here . .

Thanks for your patience and continued help.

It looks like we are 10 hours out of sync. Please check the categories you have set up. Perhaps email me a screenshot of this (in my profile). It’s definitely a category problem. If you validiate in FF, you will see the problem (missing a closed a tag).

if you are still having this problem and are using the Category Manager plugin, try disabling it. I had the same problem and it worked for me.
