    Hi All Genius,
I need your help on urgent basis, My website is showing different Title in the Google searches and is unrelated to the theme. I have checked back end coding too but that title is not found anywhere.

While in Yahoo search results, it is showing the correct Title.

So please help me out from this situation as it is affecting website ranking and business as well.

Many thanks in advance for all your support!

  • First thing I would do is check webmaster tools to see if there are any errors or messages that might shed some light and check out the ‘search appearance’ section. I’d also check your robots.txt. Then I would talk to Google to see if they have any answers. From what I can see the site was last indexed Sep 2nd and the correct page title is in the code. So something else is feeding that completely irrelevant title to the search results. I personally haven’t seen this happen before! Something that came to mind was that perhaps the site was recycled from an old one and maybe there’s some code left that hasn’t been updated? There are a few things for you to check out. Hope that helps.

Hi there, I think I found it: there’s an incorrect directory listing here that links to that website. So Google is maybe pulling the listing title from there?

I think you need to contact that site and ask them to edit the listing to reflect the correct website address.

I should add that I would be very careful about claiming and editing a listing with that company. It looks a bit dodgy to me. I would be more inclined to ask to have it removed altogether.

    Hi Monalicia,

Thank you so much for showing interest in my query. I have filed deletion request CYLEX, hope this works.

    Thanks Again!!

You really cannot control what title Google will show for a page in its search results. Their algorithms figure out what title to display based on the user query and there is no way to change that, except in rare cases where they are obviously pulling a title from a directory.

No problem! Hopefully you used the Google removal tool rather than Cylex though. Putting incorrect data online forces company owners to claim the listing and update it. I wonder if this is actually their tactic for getting the directory populated and why / how Google has decided they are more of an authority than your own site!

Cylex team has updated the listing and I am just waiting for Google to cache the same. Hope it works now..Thanks to both of you!
