Homepage posts

How do I add “continue reading…” on the homepage without it effecting the images. I would like to show the full image and a few lines of text with “continued reading” and in the options I found either it displays your full post with the full image OR it adds the “Continue reading” and cuts off your image. I tried to resize images in the featured image option but that did not work. Please help…
