• Hi,

    Our school website is:

    https://www.bigwood.nottingham.sch.uk/

which I can access through a WordPress account by adding the /wp-admin suffix and then putting in my username and password. However we have moved from one internet service provider to another and the website is now down, is there anyway that I can access the work I have done simply via WordPress?

Although https://www.bigwood.nottingham.sch.uk/ is our website, is there another link I can use to get to my WordPress account? The account was set up by a previous employer at work and we can’t contact him?

Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated, many thanks.

    Jason.

  • Hello Jason, you need to contact the support on your new web hosting manager. Your WordPress site and your data are on their computers.

You also could check with the Nottingham education administration that manages resolving your name (the “nottingham.sch.uk” part) because of this error I get:
bigwood.nottingham.sch.uk doesn't appear to be a valid domain or IP address.

Ross is quite right in what he says.

You need to understand there are two components here. Your domain name and where it points to – no where useful at the moment and – your website host.

If by the term “internet service provider” you mean you have changed who deals with your hosting then you need to move the files from the original host to the new host. If you mean something else please tell us. There are a number of possibilities here if you need further help give me a shout I am local to you.

Hi guys, thanks for your help there.

OK this is the situation so far:

    1. We now have the original Big Wood School domain name going to a brand new website.

    2. I have the FTP data on an external hard drive but in it all I can find is the images, PDF’s and other bits of stuff, no text or html published via WordPress.

    3. I have been advised that I should be able to access my WordPress account via the new / old domain name https://www.bigwood.nottingham.sch.uk/wp-admin

but I have tried that and it doesn’t work ??

    4. The old service provider have not given us the information for the website, I mean the FTP etc. They have given us the internal website data but not the information that lived on their server, ie the text.

The text which is information about lessons, uniform etc. is the main part of the website and the part that took me the most amount of time, (about 18 months!!!) to write.

Is the WordPress account that we originally had ‘dead’ or can it be accessed anywhere on the web? If we can access the text files then all we have to do is transfer them over onto the new server and start afresh with the new website.

Again I *really* appreciate any help on this front.

    Many, many thanks,

    Jason
