• About a year ago, I moved my personal blog, gailpjohnston.wordpress.com, to a self-hosted site, gailperryjohnston.com.

I thought my job was done, but last week I discovered that people can still go to gailpjohnston.wordpress.com. This is so confusing for my identity! I want that old site gone.

But the instructions for deleting a site don’t work! When I go to my account, it says that my primary blog is johnstonandalves.com, yet Johnstonandalves is a self-hosted site too. Why is it showing there? I DO NOT WANT TO DELETE JOHNSTONANDALVES, NOR HPLANDSCAPE. And I’m given no option to delete gailperryjohnston.wordpress.com.

What should I do? Please help me with all questions. To sum up: 1) Why is Johnstonandalves.com showing up in my wordpress.com account when it is a self-hosted .org account? 2) How can I delete gailperryjohnston.wordpress.com?

I’m afraid you’re posting in the wrong place and need to ask in the correct forum.

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/support

This forum here is for self-hosted WordPress.ORG software installations.

    This link explains the differences.

It’s a common misunderstanding and I am sure they can assist you in deleting your WordPress.COM site. ??

Thank you, Jan. Can you tell me why my Johnstonandalves.com site, which is a self-hosted www.remarpro.com is showing up as my dominant site when I go to my old WordPress.com account? It shouldn’t even show up there. If there was a way to attach a screen capture, I can show you.

In any event, I will go to the other support forum.

You’re using Jetpack, which connects to a WordPress.com account for some of its features. If you have connected Jetpack to your WordPress.com account, the blog will show up in your WordPress.com account just like any other blog.

Anyway, get in touch with the good folks over at WordPress.com, and they’ll be able to help you out with that other thing. ??

Thanks for your quick response. I sent my questions to .com people first and they sent me to you ?? But I re-asked the Johnstonandalves question to them, so I hope to hear.

Regarding your answer, I’m glad you know why it is happening, but how do I undo it? I just looked at the Jetpack features and I see there is something called “WordPress.com Connect.” Will deactivating take care of the problem or is there something else?

Well, do you want to stop using Jetpack? Jetpack needs to be connected to your WordPress.com account in order to be used. Many of the features (like Stats) make use of WordPress.com functions. That’s why they’re under your WordPress.com account.

The only way to remove them from your WordPress.com account is to remove Jetpack from those blogs.

I like using some things in JetPack in my self-hosted www.remarpro.com site. Do I have to remove it in it’s entirety? If I remove it, will the old site just disappear?

It seems like there should be a way to delete the actual content from my old WordPress.com site (not just unlink to it), but, again, the .com people directed me to you.

If I really do have to get rid of JetPack in my .org site, will I lose the custom CSS that I put in through JetPack’s Custom CSS feature?

I think there might be some confusion regarding the differences between WordPress.com, www.remarpro.com, and Jetpack.

To answer your question, no, Jetpack has nothing to do with your site on WordPress.com.

To continue with your question regarding your site on WordPress.com, please reply over at your WordPress.com thread: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/problems-deleting-old-website

If you remove Jetpack, you will remove all Jetpack features. I get the sense that you really don’t want to do that, so let’s just focus on the WordPress.com question over at your WordPress.com thread. ??
