Pre-Purchase: CTP functionality in unsupported theme

Hello, I’m deciding if I’m going to use Genesis for a new version of my website at all but I think this plugin could really help. I’m a little frustrated that there aren’t many StudioPress themes that come with a portfolio CPT as that is a key element to my site.
My question is, if I make my own Portfolio CPT with the eleven40 theme, how will this plugin streamline my process of creating template layouts for my portfolio pages and portfolio archive page?
