    Hi,

I thought I found the ultimate solution to my problem, but maybe I’m not getting it right. The thing is, I have my old site running and created a new one in a subdirectory. Now I want to clone the sub to the main url but I get an error saying that this site already exists…

How do I make this happen?

    thanks

Hmmm. I’m not sure how you are trying it with this free version, but that capability is only possible in the Clone Over mode of the Content and Users add-on. Do you have that add-on? If so, and if you are using Clone Over mode, you can submit a support ticket with the logs through the support button in the Cloner. Thanks!

I was indeed using the free version… I managed to copy my site using the Wp export and import options. It took me a while longer, but with some extra work I managed.

Good to know though it should be possible! Next time i’ll buy the add on!

Great! Glad you were able to get what you needed done!

This is the scenario I am rying to resolve – having a WP site in a sub of our main site (and multisite set-up too).

If I use the Clone Over add-on what happens to my main site (non WP)? Is it recoverable?

As things stand, main site is

    https://www.contemporaryenergy.co.uk/

    WP site is

    https://contemporaryenergy.co.uk/wordpress/OnlineShop/

But I am trying (and failing miserably)to get the WP sub to run as

    https://www.contemporaryenergy.co.uk

    (with or without the www.).

    Thanks, Patrick

Hello @patrick: Clone Over mode will only operate within the context of the WordPress Multisite installation. You will only ever be able to clone over a site that is available in WordPress.

It’s possible to install wordpress in a subdirectory and run it as the main domain, but with multisite not recommended at all.

Sites in WP Multisite live in the database. All files are stored under the WP installation folder.

Do you really need multisite? The Cloner isn’t a site moving / migrating tool – it’s a multisite network sites copying tool for scenarios where there are lots of sites in a single WordPress install. Are you going to have several sites that are all stores?

Is the https://contemporaryenergy.co.uk/wordpress/OnlineShop/ site a new version of https://www.contemporaryenergy.co.uk/ ? Or do they both need to be live? We’re way outside of Cloner now.

But what it sounds like you might need to do is just backup the original site and move your whole WordPress installation to the web root. Or am I misunderstanding?
