Try deactivating all other plugins and switching to the default theme.

I just installed this Contact Form plugin and found that any time I want to change it, I have to switch back to the default theme, do the editing on the contact form, save it, and then switch back to normal theme we use.

I realize this is free software, but I note that this problem was first reported quite a few years ago.

I generally contribute to developers of plugins I use but I hesitate to support a project that continues to have problems reported years ago.

@dhjdhj – Contact Form 7 is working for me on many different websites and several different servers. Any issue you have is almost certainly due to something on your local WP install. In your case, probably your theme.

That may very well be. Another perspective is this….I sell software apps to lots of people. Every now and then someone contacts us and tells us our app doesn’t work on their machine. I guarantee you we don’t tell them “well, it works on lots of other machines so it must be you…have a nice day”. If I sell (or even make something for free) that’s supposed to work on some environment, then it’s our problem when it doesn’t. And if we can’t fix it it will be because we know specifically what is wrong and why it can’t be fixed.

I don’t remember seeing anything in the description for Contact Form 7 that it only works with the default theme, for example.

Now, we are using a theme we purchased, running on the latest version of WordPress. We haven’t changed its code in any way. There may very well be some incompatibility that needs to be resolved either in our theme or in the plugin.

But the error message “Are you sure you want to do this” provides absolutely zero information as to what might be wrong. I don’t mind getting my hands dirty, looking through the code if necessary, but it sure as hell would be useful to have some insight as to what Contact Form 7 is trying to do when it fails to save changes.

@dhjdhi – CF7 works flawlessly with thousands of different themes but not your particular theme. Therefore, it is almost certainly the theme you have purchased that is the cause of your particular problem.

It is something in that theme that is causing the problems with CF7, not the other way. This is clearly evidenced by the fact that CF7 works as expected when you switch to the Default theme.

I repeat my last sentence from above

“I don’t mind getting my hands dirty, looking through the code if necessary, but it sure as hell would be useful to have some insight as to what Contact Form 7 is trying to do when it fails to save changes. ”

In this case it is probably the theme I am using because activating the default theme (2014) and editing the form worked without fail.

    thanks for everyone’s input!

I do like CF7 and hope that it continues to do updates and add features.

Would be nice though if we could figure out WHY it breaks with the theme I’m using (and the one you’re (mpachler) using).
