Any suggestions? I’ve read the online HELP. No help, in terms of it working.

Maybe my copy of GIMP is corrupted… sort of like American courts in all too many instances.

I’ll try uninstalling and installing a new.

Thanks Andrew. I signed up there.

I asked here because I have a brain injury and often can’t grasp answers, even though they are excellent.

I’ve been fortunate to find CrouchingBruin who writes in a way that I can follow. I’d hoped he might put it into words… I thought maybe I could get it then.

I signed up there on the basis of your recommendation. Thank you.

    Hi, Karen:

So when you activated the Text tool and clicked on the image to add some text, there should have been a little dialog box floating over the image, and you can set the color of the text by clicking the button on the lower right. Is that what you did? That should have allowed you to enter text in a different color. See this image.

Yes, I’m pretty sure that’s what I did… at least 20 times. The color in the little box changes, but the text doesn’t.

Only, when I gave up, closed the program, forgot about it but then returned, It worked. Only the page that I’d opened wasn’t the one I needed the red asterisk on.

On the correct page… it would not work.

I must be doing something wrong, but I can’t figure out what.

Weird, I wrote a reply, CrouchingBruin, but after posting… it wasn’t there. So, I must have done even that wrong. Sigh.

Yes. I get that button. it’s red. The text however doesn’t change to red. The font, the size of the font, all that changes when I change the properties but no red.

Yesterday I became exhausted and gave up. I closed the program and forgot about it. But later I still wanted the red asterisks, so I opened it. Low and behold the red asterisks worked, but I hadn’t opened the page I wanted them on… On that page… the red once again would not work.

I’ve not been able to get color to work again.

now, of course, both replies are here…

Wow, I just realized that you actually put a red asterisk on the image…

Hi CrouchingBruin ~~ Okay do you think it’s related to how GIMP saves tools that you’ve used. If I used the Contrast tool in the color thing, then GIMP brings it up over and over again.

So, you didn’t ever use my IRS image before. When you went to use the text editing tool there weren’t any saved things in it. So, you got red. Whereas, when I’ve previously used xxxx over my social security number, in black, GIMP thinks I still want to use black… Could that be it?

I know I’ve cleared the text preferences a few times. It could be after one of those clearings that red worked.

Also, if I use an image previously saved in GIMP, then maybe I can’s change the text color if it is already established???

Could you write the steps you used to get the red. I could open a previously un changed image of the document from my file and then follow the steps.

See, the image is too large to put into SiteBuilder and change, the way I do with many images…

Happiness! I’ve now got red asterisks, based on figuring you started with a new image.

But… how to now switch to black for the xxx over the social security number…

    Thread Starter considerthis1

    (@considerthis1)

Okay, I don’t know why it is that when you tell me something, and then I do it, it works.

I now have xxxx in black, and asterisks in red.

I don’t know how you do it, but I’d sure like that kind of miraculous ability to help. ??

As an aside the help on the GIMP forum was far more techy and really nothing to do with why it wasn’t working.

    (@considerthis1)

Oh wait, one more question… Is there a way to put a link on top of an image????

    Happiness! Happiness!! Happiness!!!

    ~~~ Just saying.
