I checked the security status of my website this morning, as I do every morning following last year’s run of brute force attacks. Everything was fine, of course, thanks to BPS.

But I just had a need to login again, and my login page went into a redirect loop and wouldn’t appear. After a moment of panic, I remembered that had happened before, when my ip address had changed after a power outage.

But there was no power outage today; I’ve been using the computer all the while.

What would cause the ip address to change, or why would my ISP (Cablevision) have a need to purposely change it?

    Thanks!

Last year’s run of Brute force attacks never stopped. It comes and goes in surges. It is now just a regular daily thing, day in and day out, on the Internet starting somewhere around April, 2013 or probably a little earlier than that. The highest peak/surge of brute force attacks on our sites that we have seen has reached around 500,000 attacks in a month. The typical range of brute force attacks that we see on our sites is usually between 300,000 to 400,000 per month.

All ISP’s normally change your IP address at regular intervals unless you have a static ip address. This is done with a DHCP server that assigns an IP address to you with a lease time for how long the ip address is valid. After the DHCP lease expires you are assigned a new ip address by the DHCP server for the next X period of time until the lease expires ………..

You can check your current public ip address by googling “whats my ip address”. You can check your root .htaccess file ip address by using FTP. if the ip addresses do not match then you can edit your root .htaccess file and upload it to your website or just delete it and create a new one after changing your ip address in BPS Custom Code and clicking the AutoMagic buttons and activate root folder bulletproof mode again.
