Domainname and installation folder differ

Install WP to “nicelink.com” (whatever that is). Period. No headaches.

Maybe it’s not that clear, a few additional info:

* When I surf to https://www.nicelink.com (this is a domainname only, no hosting), it forwards me to https://www.personal.com/wp. But the domainname in the adressfield still stays https://www.nicelink.com. This has to stay this way.

* This would also mean that an article sould get the following url https://www.nicelink.com/hillary-for-president , because I want Google to index the article under the https://www.nicelink.com domainname.

* But when I don’t change anything in WP Admin Board, the article url stays https://www.personal.com/wp/hillary-for-president. When I do try to change stuff i get 404 errors and 500 errors.

Hope this additional information made my problem somewhat clearer.

https://www.nicelink.com doesn’t have a hosting package, I regged the “domainname only”. https://www.personal.com does have a hosting package.

Well, WP doesn’t work with this kind of redirect tricks. You should have asked before.

if you own https://www.personal.com, i would set up an addon domain and host your https://www.nicelink.com there. If you do not own https://www.personal.com, ask the owner/webmaster if they can set an addon domain for you. This is how I set up a blog on a website in a folder.

Essentially, what I’m saying is, why cant you host your domain wherever your folder is?

Ok, but does permalink then display the urls properly?

I did some searching on it, and it seems to do the trick. Only downside to it, is that my hostingprovider wants money for it. I can’t add it myself, they limit it.

If there is a one time fee for setting up an addon domain, then I would suggest doing that. If there is a monthly charge, I would go and get new hosting. If youd like, I can give you a list of hosts that have cheap rates and excellent services, although I am not sure if I can post them here.

If you set up an addon domain then yes, the permalinks would display just fine. It would be a completely different website configured in a folder on the existing site. Any files or folders in that folder would be prefaced with https://yoursite.com.
