After recently updating WordPress, my website’s theme no longer functions. In the ‘Dashboard’ under ‘Appearance – Themes’ there is a list of themes I had installed which now reads: ‘Broken Themes – stylesheet is missing’.

I have searched through this topic in these forums and cannot understand a single word. I just want to delete these themes and re-install them or whatever.

    Thank you.

  • do you have a link to your site?

You could delete and reinstall your theme, but if you’ve made customizations they will be lost.

Which theme were you using? Be sure to check if there is a theme update.

Specifically what can’t you understand that’s relevant to your issue? You can’t understand deactivating all of your plugins and activating the default Twenty Fourteen theme? That will narrow down the issue.

I cannot delete any of the ‘broken themes’, that is the whole problem. There is only a delete option for themes that are correctly installed.

Similarly I cannot re-install any of the broken themes. They all present with the tag ‘Already Installed’.

Dear Andrew, I have been reading about this issue all day. I am not equipped to use FTPs and such like. What is the Earthly point of WordPress with its user friendly interface when it is so difficult to do the simplest thing? What is complicated about my question? I just want to get rid of these ‘broken themes’ and reinstall the theme I had before. All I did was update WordPress and there has been no end of trouble.

There was no question asked. You didn’t tell us what you wanted to do to begin with, well not specifically.

It is now clear that you don’t want to find out what went wrong and instead just want it fixed, so I’m sorry that I misunderstood your intentions.

    Hi Ian,

Does the theme you want to use is available online, I mean can you get it again if you delete it now? If yes, I think you can try this:

    1. Please activate any default theme (Twenty Twelve, Twenty Thirteen, Twenty Fourteen, etc.)
    2. With your FTP, go into your wp-content > themes folder. Copy the folder of the theme you want to use later and paste it somewhere in your computer. Then delete those files from your server.
    3. Refresh your admin panel themes page and see if the theme you want is showing in this page and it is showing as broken. I don’t think it will. In that case, simply Add that theme again.

    Hope that helps.

    Best wishes !!
