Worked it out. Had to FTP into site, rename the plugin directory and then I could log in. Got in, re-activated the plugin and it seems to be working now.

    Hi Fitshase,

Seems like you’ve locked yourself out of the site. Do you remember what your access setting was before you updated? Also, are you an administrator of your site?

Even though you fixed your issue by resetting the plugin directory, it sounds like a bug on update that I’d like to try to track down if you’re willing.

    1. What versions of the plugin did you update from and to (if you remember)
    2. What was your access setting prior to upgrade?
    3. Are you an administrator on your site?

    Hi Drew,

I wasn’t logged out, it was the plugin redirecting me back to the homepage. I had the WordPress bar across the top of the site with my username showing and I could go and change my profile but access to everything else was gone.

Quite worrying for a site admin when the admin account is locked out by a plugin.

It’s all resolved now though. Renamed the plugin folder through FTP which de-activated the plugin and then I could see the dashboard.

Happy to help. I can’t seem to replicate the issue though. Let me know what you need.

I agree. That’s why I’d like to try to get more information about your issue.

    1. What versions of the plugin did you update from and to (if you remember) – I upgraded from 1.0 to 1.1.1

    2. What was your access setting prior to upgrade?
can you clarify? Is it the “Dashboard User Access”? If so, it was set to “Administrator Only”

    3. Are you an administrator on your site?
Yes – I am the administrator and there is another administrator as well (they don’t really use the site often so were unaware of any issue

Great, thanks. Let me poke around a little bit and see if I can figure out what happened. Thank you for letting me know.

Sorry, last question. Did update through the Dashboard or by overwriting the plugin directory?

I updated through the dashboard. As soon as it updated and I clicked on the “Return to plugin page” it just went to the website homepage.

Hey there, first of all thanks for the great work with that plugin!

The same issue just happend to me, everytime I tried getting to the Dashboard I was being redirected to my normal Website. I updated from 1.0 to 1.1.1 (through the Dashboard) and set “Dashboard User Access” to “Editors and Administrators”. Have you already found a solution for that? Let me know if you need further information, although I think I could not provide more than Fitshase.

The workaround with renaming the directory and reactivating the plugin worked as a first solution.

Hi p3000, out of curiosity, what version of WordPress are you running?

Hey Drew, thanks for your quick feedback.

The site is still running on WordPress 3.8, as it is some sort of intranet with IP restricted access.

    Best, Peter.

    Peter,

Just to clarify, are you saying that you

    1. Upgraded from 1.0 to 1.1.1 via the Dashboard
    2. Visited Settings > Dashboard Access
    3. Changed your setting to “Editors and Administrators”
    4. Clicked “Save Changes”
    5. Then you got locked out?

Hi Drew, sorry for the confusion, these were the steps:

    1. Updated Plugin via the Dashboard from 1.0 to 1.1.1
    2. Then got locked out

    3. SFTP: Renamed the directory to [remove-dashboard-access-for-non-admin]
    4. Reactivated the plugin

    5. Changed the setting from Adminstrators to Editors and Administrators again (as it was before updating, as Editors also need access to the Dashboard for adding posts – whereas I am not sure at the moment if it was set to Editors and Administrators or Advanced by capability). The rest of the settings (Redirect URL, User Profile Access) seem to not have changed while updating/renaming.

    Thanks

    Update:
Ah, just had a look at my local setup for dev (not updated) ??

The setting for User Access has been:
    Limit by capability: edit_pages
as Editors and Adminstrators did not exist.
