Deleting State breaks tax scheme

We only ship to continental US. When I delete Alaska and Hawaii from the State list in Ready E-commerce Options, two error occur. The option list in the Tax Options, and the State field on the Checkout process, become simple text fields. I have a tax rate that applies to only 1 state and only certain categories. The checkout process applies the tax to the state properly but ignores the category limitations applying tax to all products.
Note: when I restore all state, the functions work fine. Not acceptable since client can sip to Alaska and Hawaii due to costs.
Any thoughts?
