• Hello,

I am new to WordPress, and downloaded the Water Lily theme today. I am wondering if there is any tutorials or documentation for this theme?

I am looking at your demo. It shows 3 columns and each item in the columns links to it’s own page, yet does not show in the Nav bar?

    Where are these options located?
    1) I cannot see where you create/indicate columns (mine is single column only)
    2) How do I create pages as you have with out them showing in the Nav bar?
    3) Can Fonts or Font colors be changed?

How can I set it up as you have it? Maybe there a version of the site that is populated so that I can replace images with my own?

    Thank you so much!
    Allly

    I forgot to add:

How does one turn off comments?

    Hi Ally,

The way the theme works is as follows:

    – Posts appear on the home page in the masonry grid. The page is laid out by pulling the blog posts featured image and title or if there’s no featured title, the title and the excerpt.

    – Pages are different from posts and will display in the sidebar navigation, unless you set up a menu.

    – Fonts and colour can be modified, but you need to set up a child theme or custom CSS *more on that below.

    – To turn off comments, go to Settings > Discussion and go through the various options.

I just released this theme and I haven’t done very good documentation. Thank you for reminding me. I’ll update the theme with more instructions and will link to an example child theme.

    Hi Christine,

Thank you so much for your quick reply!

    1) I see now. I was thinking the pages would show in a grid. I did add two posts, and those do adhere to a grid.

    2) No CSS for me at this point, but good to know!

    3) I deselected this (and all other options in Discussion Settings) ” Allow people to post comments on new articles” and yet comments appear so *some* but not all pages. It seems quite random, I’m baffled ??

If you go to your pages, check the box next to the title. That will select all of your pages.
Then above you’ll see a drop down with bulk actions.
    Select Edit, click apply.
A new screen will appear with two columns, the first is the list of your pages.
On the right of it are a series of drop downs.
IN the comment drop down, choose “Do not allow”
    Click update.

That will remove the comments from all of your pages.

    WOW!

Thanks again, for all your work.

(PS the remove comments via Bulk editing worked:-)

    hi,
i’m a newbie as well and am fighting a keyboard problem so please excuse my errant punctuation and other strange characters. i’ve got a couple questions re using the columns as well to display pictures. i read that the version of masonry included with wordpress installation is an older version and until that is fixed we should consider installing the latest. is that relevant with water lily. insert question mark there… i followed the instructions for creating and inserting a gallery using three columns but when i display my page i only get one column.

thanks in advance for your help, if there is a more relevant place for me to be posting these questions please let me know.

    bluefoottart,

Apparently, you only get columns when you create blog posts, NOT pages. I made that mistake, too.

I found this template because it said it was a portfolio theme. In actuality it is a Blog theme. So, I ended up having to do some workarounds to get it display the way I wanted.

It was not ideal, but it worked. Basically, all my “pages” were created as blog posts, so they display as a portfolio page with columns.

Not perfect, but to will do for now!

    Hope this helps…

    Hi bluefoottart,,

If you can provide a link to your site, that would help.
It’s hard to know what’s going on without being able to see your site.

I updated the theme a few days ago and added more details in the readme file explaining how to use the theme.

I also added this extra page to the demo – https://themes.bluelimemedia.com/water-lily/instructions/

ok thanks ya’ll in advance. i’m really just getting started with wordpress so don’t have much of anything to show. i like the way the waterlily demo page looks and am simply trying to recreate that. i’ll go read these things and go from there…
