• Hi there

Ok, so I’m not a coder/developer – purely a small business owner who had a website designed in WP and am trying to maintain it myself (as I don’t have the funds to pay anyone else to do it), and so learning a lot in the process!

I’ve seen my website (https://www.fmkmassage.co.uk) slowly creep up the Google search engine pages to the top of page two from my key search, but have suddenly slipped back down again, and I think it’s due to a few faults on my site. I’d really appreciate any advice anyone has in how to fix the issues – ideally through plug-ins (as I say, I’m not a coder). Here are the issues GWT is displaying:

Structured Data – 7 items with error – all of them are Missing: author, Missing: entry-title, Missing: updated – all from the blog page of my site. I’ve linked each of them to my Google+ profile (the Google+ link is even displayed beneath each post (thanks to a Google+ plug-in), so I can’t figure out why it’s not recognising the author still. And they all have a date and a title, so I’m not sure what ‘entry-title’ and ‘updated’ are referring to.

HTML Improvements – I have 5 duplicate meta descriptions and 5 duplicate title tags – all from the same pages… but I’ve double-checked and each page has different titles & descriptions. I think I tracked this down in the end to the All-in-One SEO plug-in, that I’ve since disabled part of, and hoping this resolves it. Any idea how I can get GWT to check if it’s now fixed? When does it update for this?

Links – quite a few of my External Links are being recognised by GWT now, but I notice a few key ones missing (e.g. my Netmums listing, and Facebook and Twitter page links). Do you know why / how I can ensure they do?

In a Fetch & Render as Google I only get a Partial Status on each page. If I click for more info on the Home pg it lists 6 items where the script was ‘Denied by robots.txt’. This appears to relate mainly to my metaslider plug-in possibly (it says ‘wp-includes/js/jquery’ or ‘js/comment’). It also says the Twitter widget was ‘Denied by robots.txt’. And it lists two random images as ‘not found’ both of which are related to the theme (Beauty) – one is the ‘header’ and the other is called ‘bg-wrap’. On my blog page the ‘Google+’ icon also comes up as an image ‘not found’. On my Prices page & my Contact form page I get an additional theme image not found called ‘gradient-input’. And lastly, on my testimonials page I get 2 additional theme images not found – ‘testimonial-icon’ and ‘arrow-quote’. Any ideas on how I can rectify these?

Using the Instant Preview Lab I have 70 errors ‘fetching resources’ – a whole massive random list of images from my site, pages of my site, various plug-ins, and theme elements. Any ideas how to fix this issue?

And lastly, the main other problem I have that I think may really be affecting me, is the speed of my site. According to Google PageSpeed Insights I’m scoring just 52/100 on mobile and 64/100 on Desktop.
They both list following suggestions: Optimize images, leverage browser caching, eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content, Prioritize visible content, Minify JavaScript, Reduce server response time, Minify CSS & Minify HTML. I’ve got a WP Super Cache plug-in and also a GZip Ninja Speed plug-in. Any others that could help? The GZip appears to have done nothing since I downloaded it! Maybe it’s my plug-ins in general that are causing the slowness? Or all the images in my metaslider on the home page?

That’s everything for now. I’m really hoping that fixing all of these problems increases my SEO ranking, as I’m clogging and tweeting regularly, and it appears all pages/copy/images are tagged, so I’m hoping it’s just the above keep me down – and I’ll shoot up when rectified! But maybe that’s just wishful thinking…

    Cheers all!
