Someone purchased my domain and hosting for me through GoDaddy.

For some reason, my hosting expired on June 1st and the domain is set to expire at the end of this month.

I renewed both tonight, logged into WP only to find that all of my posts, media, plug-ins, themes, everything is gone. But, I’m still with GD. I didn’t switch companies, it just expired.

Is there anyway to get anything back? I was never told that I needed a backup site.

Someone please help! I don’t understand this because WP has remembered everything else, like blogs I follow, STATS, and comments I’ve made, but all of my work is gone.

If you do not have a full backup of both your files and your database you need to ask GoDaddy whether they have one.

What I don’t understand is that if I completed everything in WordPress why is everything gone? I didn’t upload anything to GoDaddy, nothing but the theme.

But, when I sign into WP, it uses the same username/password, has the same information, it shows my website stats, etc. I don’t get why all my posts have been deleted when I didn’t do anything in GD. I signed into GD maybe 3x in the last year.

If you uploaded the theme to GoDaddy that means that you are using a self-hosted WordPress installation. If you didn’t install it yourself it was installed by GoDaddy for you – perhaps using a one-click install. All of the files and everything in the database including the content would have been on GoDaddy’s servers so you need to ask them about this.

    why is everything gone?

Your site’s content was stored in your database – which in turn was hosted within your GoDaddy account.

@Cubecolour, yes, I uploaded the theme (which was the last one that I chose to use – after having the blog for a year). This was the only thing I did with GoDaddy in that entire time.

@esmi, right, but my hosting expired on the 1st. I was just able to renew it last night but I didn’t know that everything would be deleted when the hosting canceled. I did all of my work in WP which is why I don’t understand why there is nothing there.

Your database was part of your hosting. It was deleted when your hosting was cancelled. Therefore all of your site content was deleted.

    Yes I see that.

I just don’t understand how if I did everything in WP why it’s gone, hosting or not.

How do I do a backup of my files so that this doesn’t happen again…should I decide to continue my blog.

I just don’t understand how if I did everything in WP why it’s gone, hosting or not.

Where did you think your site’s content was stored?

How do I do a backup of my files

It is not files that you need to backup. It’s your site’s database.

I thought since it showed up on WordPress that it’d stay there. I’ve used other blogging software before and anytime I left the blog and came back, my content was still there. I understand I’m an idiot because I really don’t get this, but please don’t talk to me like that. I need help, not patronizing.

How do I backup WHATEVER needs to be backed up so that this won’t happen again.

As I said previously, your site’s content was stored in your database – which in turn was hosted within your GoDaddy account. There is no connection between www.remarpro.com and any self-hosted WordPress site. We do not have copies of your site.

So what you’re saying is there is no way to backup anything then? Because that’s what I keep asking. How do I save my crap to avoid this from happening again. If I want to use hosting with another company, how do I save my crap? If I want to go to a free blog, like Blogger, how do I save my crap?
