    Hi David,

Thank you for your amazing plugin. I’m trying to create a backup for a site that uses NewStatPress, would prefer to continue using the plugin but is okay with not backing up the data. I’ve tried unchecking ‘plugins’ and adding ‘wp_statpress’ to the exclude text boxes, but when I run a backup it still tries to include the huge statpress table. Could you point me in the right direction?

    Thanks,
    Kristen

    Hi Kristen,

    Thank you!

There’s currently no option to exclude specific database tables from the backup. However, statpress is on a list that UpdraftPlus of tables that are likely to be very big, and whose data is not essential. What it does with this list is to skip the data from such tables if attempts to back them up repeatedly run out of time (which depends on the time allocation from your web hosting setup). So, theoretically, there’s no danger of the large amount of data causing a backup failure.

If you don’t want to restore the data, then there’s always the manual way: 1) Decompress the db.gz database backup file and open it in a text editor 2) Find the CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements for the statpress table, and delete them 3) Save and recompress the file.

Also, Statpress has settings for automatically purging its own data after a set amount of time, which can be useful.

    Best wishes,
    David

Thanks David! I saw the warning message and assumed failure and started troubleshooting before letting UpdraftPlus continue through its protocol. I just needed to be patient. : )

It really helps how vigilant you are with the support forum. I’ll be sure to leave a good review and a small donation.

    All the best,
    Kristen

    Hi,

Thank you – very much appreciated!

Your review says that you manage websites for businesses – please do take a look at UpdraftPlus Premium – https://updraftplus.com/shop/updraftplus-premium – it’s got various features that you might find handy (e.g. enhanced reporting, no advert links, more storage options for duplicate copies of your backups, faster support, and several more).

    Best wishes,
    David
