• I thought it was a problem with two plugins I had installed – Jetpack and Ithemes, but I deactivated both and deleted all of the ithemes and I’m still having problems. I have one plugin – Wishlist Member that isn’t showing up at all on my side panel to even access it. And my dashboard has completely disappeared. I tried doing a reinstall of WordPress on my site, but when I do that, I lose my entire site and Bluehost has to restore my site. I am using the latest version of WordPress and all of my plugins. With anything related to Jetpack I also get a notice “You do not have sufficient permission to do this.” But today it started coming up when I just tried to log in and I had to find a different way to get into my site. What is going on here?

  • You shouldn’t “lose your entire site” since the data is stored in the database, not in the WordPress files themselves. If, however, you replace the wp-content folder with a new one, you will lose all your themes, plugins, and uploaded images. When Bluehost restores your site, they are restoring from a backup, which probably includes the item that is causing your problem.

But today it started coming up when I just tried to log in and I had to find a different way to get into my site.

I have no idea what this means. AFAIK, there is only one way to log in to a WP site. What is this “other way”?

You can try deleting your plugins and reinstalling them via FTP or shell to make sure they are really gone. Or just delete Jetpack. I have noticed Jetpack causes issues for a lot of people, but I have never had a problem with it. (Then again, I use it for very little.)

Here is a list of strategies you can try:

Bluehost restored my site to a week ago before the problem existed, which started on the 18th.

I tried doing all kinds of troubleshooting on my own, including deleting all of my plugins. But the error came in being corrupt data in my code with permissions.

As for another way to log in, I logged in, got the error message, so went to the frontend site and clicked the edit button on a page and got in that way.

If you see the “edit” button, you are already logged in. Logged out users do not see that.

If you are having permissions issues (and I suspected that), make sure that you are only using WordPress-approved plugins and that you have not been hacked. There are resources for that (succuri) in the blog post I linked to.
