    From the search engine’s perspective, these redirects will appear exactly the same as a redirect configured in .htaccess.

    The next time Google crawls your site, it should update the URL in the SERPs. If you want to speed that along, configure Google webmaster tools for your site and you can ask Google to re-crawl the old URL using this method https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/158587?hl=en

    That should get the new URL into SERPs in about a day.
