still cant work out how to insert an image

You need to edit sidebar.php. The code you’d put in would be the standard: <img src="image-url" alt="whatever" />.

You can put the image file wherever you want, but usually people create a directory in the site root called “images”. You just have to make sure that the file path (which I represented above as “image-url”) points to where the image is located.

So if you do have a folder called “image” in the root of your site and your image is there, the code would be something like <img src="/image/filename.jpg" alt="whatever" />.

The “alt” bit is some descriptive text that explains to someone who is blind or has images switched off what the image is.

thanks for that – seems however that I get no image still. I did everything you said and all it shows is the alt text?! I tried uploading to the root and to a new images directory and still no joy.

Any ideas on what the problem might be?

So you need to upload the clouds.jpg image to that folder, and then use this to display it:

actually, this doesnt work either.. gutted. I put the file in the correct folder as you mentioned.

and still no joy?!! what the hell?!

Well, the second one would always work, if you had the whole path in there like this:

Odd thing is, you shouldn’t HAVE to hard-link it. But try it to see.

Hmmm. Just tried loading it in my browser, and it’s not finding the image there either. So not sure what’s happening here….

could be anything to do with a corrupted stylesheet or something? I noticed on the css some coding for images, does that have to be tweaked somehow too?

Not generally, no. Just reverify that you’ve uploaded the file to https://temperateminds.com/wp-content/themes/lonely-island-10/images/clouds2.jpg first. Try loading it in your browser using that address.

And make sure you’re uploading as binary!

Could explain what this means please ? Sorry, I rather new here…

Images have to be uploaded by your ftp client as binary not text/ASCII.

There are two header images, using some sort of php functionality,

https://temperateminds.com/wp-content/themes/lonely-island-10/images/header-img.php?upper=0000FF&lower=003300

which are showing as broken in the FF webdev toolbar. So once you get the clouds image sorted out, the same sort of fix should help the header.

ah, i understand the binary bit – but what about the broken header images?
