• Hi

Recently I notice that all my photos and pictures uploaded to my site have been found in Google search images, is there any way to stop them ?

    Thanks.

  • Try disallowing your images uploads folder using robots.txt file.

Can I request further guidance ?

I mean using robots.txt file, is it from cpanel ?

What do I need to add in ?

Yes, at cPanel you may find a file named robots.txt

You can disallow from SEs the folder that contains your images.

    What’s your site URL?

    Thank you so much.

Try using the following robots.txt and see if it helps:

    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /wp-content/uploads/

How to know whether it is working ?

Well, you may need to wait till the newly indexed pages appear in your search results. You may make the necessary changes, submit a new sitemap to Google and look for any changes in your webmaster tools account too.

    Sorry, I don’t really understand this :

you may need to wait till the newly indexed pages appear in your search results.

Google Images gives access to a full list of pictures uploaded in my site. I don’t want them to do so.

I just searched a picture on Google Images and once I clicked ‘visit page’, I was directed to the index page of my website in which a complete list of pictures I have ever uploaded was available and downloadable, even those not available on my site anymore!

How can I stop search engines from giving access to the index of wp-content of my site?

I have no problem with being searchable; but once people click on ‘visit page’ they should be directed to my webpages not the backstage, i.e. the index page.
