• i’ve looked through the codex, and searched from an answer but i’ve come up empty. so here goes, i’m running the latest version of wordpress and i’m adding an author to my site. i’ve done this in the user area. it shows a new author. and if i go to write there’s a button to change to the new author. all good.

but there’s no email sent out to the new author. and more importantly, the new author can’t log on with the author name and password. am i missing something here? surely i don’t have to give authors my password and full access to the site.

curious, what’s it take to get a reply? i just looked at my profile history. in this wordpress “help” forum i’ve asked 5 questions over the last year and none were answered.

ok, forget the past – can anyone here troubleshoot or better explain the add user/author feature?

Wrong and argumentative. Go back to your profile and click each of those in the right column. Disregard the bug that says “No replies”. Of your first 4, 3 had replies. THat’s not too shabby for FREE and volunteer driven support. ??

Remember that username and password is always case-sensitive.

If that doesn’t help, consider allowing registrations temporarily (perhaps default new users to subscriber level!). Have the authors show up and register then bump ’em up to Author level.

ah, a bug. my apologies then. and thanks for offering some help.

it wouldn’t be a case sensitive problem. i created the password, and then tried to log on with the new user name and password i created. no go.

thanks, i’ll play around with adding users to subscriber level, then bumping them up. i’m just trying to avoid allowing too much access to my site.

That’s really weird if you’re matching case for both. What version of WordPress?

Do you know what your host environment is (os, php, mysql, web server flavor and version)?

i’m running the latest wordpress. i use bluehost. not sure about the details.

i’ve just got some delayed email telling me i changed the password for the new user etc. but i still can’t log on.

i’ll keep at it. thanks again.

for anyone coming along with similar issues, i solved the problem by hitting the lost password link on the log in page. a new password was sent by email. this time i received it, and using this new password i was able to log on.

lol i have no idea why this worked – but it did.
