• Hey there,

I have this website with wordpress working all fine but need to transfer the domain to a new registrar. Should I suggest backup the wordpress and transfer the domain or is there anything else I need to look in to?
    Kindly please advice.

    Thanks.

  • If all you’re doing is changing registrars for the domain and not the host, then you really only need to make sure that the new registrar is pointing the domain’s A-record (DNS) to the same server.

Backing up any data is always a good idea.

Thanks a lot for the response.
I skipped to mention that the server to is going to be a new one.
Hence the domain once transferred is going to point
    To a new server.

Moving the host is more complicated. As long as the new host is providing similar services then you need to backup your WordPress mysql database, and then create your mysql user on the new host and restore the database there. Then you will simply copy all your files from the old host to the new host, keeping the directory structure the same.

Don’t be surprised if the site will require some tweaking before it works properly.

@animaxmsa – depending on your comfort level with moving a database, you may also want to consider one of several plugins designed to make this job easier, such as WP Clone or WordPress Duplicator.
