I notice that a lot of good advice is being thrown around about site design. I haven’t put any work into my site’s layout other than a few minor tweaks to one of the WordPress templates I found at the AlexKing site. Anyway, I’m mostly concerned with the content on my site, but I was wondering if anyone could offer any helpful hints about how I might improve the presentation or look of what I have so far. I’d appreciate it.

Whilst I haven’t tried it, if you’re not interested in changing anything but the look of the site, I would suggest you learn CSS and go from there. The thing I love most about WordPress is that it’s almost entirely CSS based in the appearance dept. I used to learn how to make my own layouts by tweaking someone elses until I got a look that I liked and then trying from scratch to build my own so I understood each part of it.
    https://blog.nuclearmoose.ca/wp-docs/wp-layout-explained.htm – that’s also a helpful article.

I think I might give creating my own layout a try, and that link you provided is extremely helpful, but I’d also like to get a book. There are so many different books on HTML and CSS that I have no idea which one to chose.
Is there one definitive book on CSS?
    thanks,

Something’s wrong with your link, Gregor, but I got there. I’m not a 3 column person myself, but for CSS I highly recommend the House of Style (tutorials) and Stylemaster (30 day demo) from westciv software.
