• Here is my blog: https://courtneysdesign.net/

First please bear with me. I am new at this and not very good at it. I have a pretty new blog with WP. Everything was going fine, I imported my data from my old blog, created my menu, created my widgets and just a little editing to clean up the posts. Everything was going fine until today. I have tried to read post and posts, but not one answer was the same and I am just as confused.

I installed a “pin it” button using a plug-in and it seemed ok. It showed up under each post, etc. I went in continuing to edit my posts and then went to my homepage and suddenly my widgets and menu on the right are missing. They appear everywhere else on the blog, just not the homepage, where it’s the most important.

I assumed it was the plug-in and removed it, but it didn’t help. One minute my widgets and menu were there and next they were gone. I have been over this for hours to no avail. I tried to remove my theme and reinstall it, but that didn’t work either. I emptied my cache and that didn’t help. I redid my menu and my home page link and that didn’t help. I am assuming coding got messed up along the way and I have NO IDEA about code. NOTHING. NADA. Hence, using templates.

If someone could please help me figure this out, it would be greatly appreciated. If there are any responses, please pretend you are talking to a 10 year old…wait, my 10 year old knows more. A 5 year old. If anyone starts speaking code, I will start drooling lol. That’s how little I know.

    Thanks for any help.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

-I did not deactivate all the other plugins because I haven’t had any problems with any of them until today, which was the Pin It plugin. Do you think I should still try it despite them working for a while now and only today stopped working? I am assuming the benefit of that is to see which one is the one causing me problems?

-How do I reset my default theme? I can’t seem to find that. I only seem to find a list of themes to switch to, which I have done several times. And, switching themes doesn’t matter. It affects the homepage no matter which theme I am in.

-How do I reset a plugin in FTP, when I didn’t download the plugins on my computer. I just installed and activated them directly from WP.

-Is it possible for a plugin to disrupt coding?

There is no magic bullet in these situations. This is just basic troubleshooting – a process of elimination deliberately designed to locate the root cause as quickly as possible by first removing the most obvious and common culprits via a series of (often) temporary steps. Your theme & plugin settings are saved in your database and should be retained for future use.

You can switch themes via Appearance -> Themes.

Please see the page at the link I posted above.

Is it possible for a plugin to disrupt coding

    Yes – very much so,.

Ok, I know how to change a theme. I stated above that I have already attempted to change my themes several times. All of which my homepage is still affected. That doesn’t tell me how to change to the “dafault” which you previously mentioned.

I will work on my plug-ins and if that doesn’t work and resetting via FTP, which I don’t have access to right now, doesn’t work.

How would coding like this get corrected?

I know how to change a theme

Then please switch to the default 2014 theme.

How would coding like this get corrected?

By eliminating all of the factors on your site until you arrive at the culprit.

Well resetting the theme was a disaster. Looks horrible and as stated before, all themes aren’t handling the sidebar on the homepage since this happened.

As for coding…well, that is something I cannot do. I know nothing about it.

I will wait later to see if I can get into FTP to change that.

    What pain in the…this is.

Well resetting the theme was a disaster.

Can we see the site using the default Twenty Fourteen theme with all plugins deactivated?

    Sure:

Nothing is there on the left. But, is on the other pages. The home page looks horrible.

Thanks for your help on this btw.

PS The gmedia was for all my images to be organized a certain way. Now that it’s inactive, is why it shows the code.

I put in 2014 and deactivated all of them already.

    Thread Starter courtneysdesign

    (@courtneysdesign)

There are two plugins: 1 is a must use called system plugin and the other is object-cache.php
APC Object Cache under dropins…neither of which I can deactivate

    Thread Starter courtneysdesign

    (@courtneysdesign)

    Do you see it?

    (@courtneysdesign)

I am now trying to get to the GoDaddy site and rename folder, but I cannot for the life of me find it to change it in their directory. Sigh.

I have tried everything but this…please can someone help? I have left blogger for you all and I am having a way harder time here. I NEED to have my menu/sidebar on homepage. It’s important to get people to follow you and navigate. Please.

And, I removed the 2014 and restored plugins since none of that worked and I got no response.
