Hello this is my first post on this forum

I’ve bought a domain on godaddy and I’ve got a free blog on wordpress.com

If I’ve read correctly there’s no way to map the godaddy domain to the wordpress blog without paying about 10 bucks per year to map the domain. (it was free on blogspot).

My question is: should I spend 10 bucks per year to map the godaddy domain to the wordpress url or it’s better to rent wordpress hosting on godaddy for the same price ?

    Thanks

  • Hello!

Is there anything on your WordPress.com site that you want to do and are unable to because of the .com limits? (apart from the domain name)? Most people who switch from .com to self hosted WordPress do so because there is some functionality (theme, commerce etc) where it makes sense to move. If you’re fine with your site as it is,I would just map the domain to your WordPress.com account. If you decide you want to expand or take your site into a new direction then you can re-evaluate then and move to self-managed WordPress.

Here’s a quick link on mapping your domain to your WordPress.com site:

Unless you are installing your own self-hosted version then you’re posting in the wrong place and need to ask in the correct forum.

This forum here is for self-hosted WordPress.ORG software installations.

    It’s a common misunderstanding. ??

    Thanks for your nice replies.
@kelli no, nothing in particular so I decided to pay 10 extra bucks to map the domain to the wordpress.com blog

@jan thanks, I wasn’t aware of the distinction
