• Hi guys. After I installed the static front page plugin there doesnt seem to be anywhere to find my blog, there is ‘archives’ and ‘latest post’ but I would actually like ‘blog’ to appear in my top menu and the address be something like example.com/blog.

    https://www.buildyourlifetoorder.com

Thats the home page, as you can see from the top menu – blog is nowhere to be found, can anyone help?

  • You installed WP in the main directory, Home is the index-page of your blog.

You could install the blog to /blog. Is that what you wanted?

yes, does that mean taking ALL folders and files and creating a new folder called blog and putting them into it?

O and how do I get to keep my home page if this is how you do it, thanks.

Truthfully, there’s currently not a simple solution for this if you are wanting the simplicity of the same design for the root page at yoursite.com to be your WP theme as well as having the dynamic links that go along with that. If you installed WP in /blog, you would have to create a php file using some WP code, recreate the divs from the theme’s index.php and copy the style sheet over into the root directory.

However, with the soon to be released 2.1 version, this will be a simple built in task.

Dennis (the author of the static front page plugin) suggests using his opt-in plugin to achieve a /category/blog link.

That would buy you some time until 2.1 is officially released. As you are new to WP, I wouldn’t suggest using the development alpha version just yet (actually, it’s not suggested that anyone really uses alpha and beta releases for their site, unless they are really familiar with WP, make regular backups while using them, and fully understand the consequences of possible mishaps)
