Images added to Library but not showing in library window in Post

Are you running a caching plugin on this site? If so, try flushing the page cache.

Purging the cache has no effect.

Clear your browser cache right after that?

that doesn’t have an effect either.

Was this working before you upgraded to V3.9?

I think the problem was intermitant prior to the upgrade.

Do you get an error when you upload? I’m having a similar problem

No error. Basically I know an image is in the library but if I go to a post and try to add the image from the Library the image isn’t available. Even if I search, the image doesn’t show.
Or if I start a new post and add an image via ‘Upload Files’ I can add the image to the library and attach it to the post, but say if I want to then use the same image in the same post but as the Feature Image the image again isn’t shown in the library, but if I go the Library via the main menu the image is there.

Do you have any media plugins that update the media library?

This sounds like the problem I had… except uploading was rubbish as well. I had my host jumping through hoops but in the end all that seemed to be needed (for me) was to uncheck the box in the media management tool, which said to keep thumbnails proportional.

Have a look at the source code for your posts and see if wp is trying to add images of 1x1px. thats what happened to me. Once I unchecked that box, everything worked as it should.

So I’ve unchecked the ‘keep thumbnails proportional’ button. Still having the problem. It’s really strange because images add to the Media Library prior to 28 March will show when you try to insert into a post from the Library. Everything after will not show.

I think I’ve found the problem. I run Advanced Custom Fields and WPML on my site. It seems that together they are causing the problem. When I deactivate Advanced Custom Fields: Repeater Field and WPML and all associated plugins the media library works as it should (but of course my site translation and images are no longer available).
What do I do next? Contact the plugin creators?

Good work, you need to go through an elimination process. It’s unlikely that all three are involved directly. You need to de-activate Advanced Custom Fields and Repeater fields, leaving WPML active, check the Library, then reverse this, de-activate WPML and activate the other two. If its Advanced Custom Fields, see if Advanced Custom Fields causes it alone. Now you have something to go to the plugin author with.

Problem solved! I updated WPML to the latest version (for some reason their plugin doesn’t auto update) and it’s all back to normal.
So, anyone else running WPML have Media Library issues, update WPML!
