• Since upgrading to 3.9, I am having problems uploading featured images to the site.

Some images upload fine, while with others the site freezes when it is “crunching” the file. Then it either spits out an “HTTP error” or “An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.”

This is happening when trying to add featured images. If I go to the regular media upload function, the same image that refuses to upload as a featured image uploads just fine.

  • WordPress needs to address this, LOTS of people are getting this, and it’s ALL since the 3.9 update.

This sometimes can mean an incompatible plugin.

Can you try disabling all plugins and see if the problem still occurs?

This does need addressed. I too am having this issue since upgrading to 3.9.

I too have this issue. I have de-activated all plugins and tried of uploading image and getting the same error “An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.”. Kindly let me know what is the cause for this and how to resolve this.

Yep I am getting the error … and uploads just take ages longer now, thinking of downgrading to 3.8 as a result.

I had the same issue and was resolved after disabling the “WP Smush It” plugin. I suppose that others like it (image processors) should cause similar problems.

I tried a 3.8 downgrade but it didn’t help at all. Does everyone else also find that the images then do exist in the media library *after* the http error? Mine do, but do not show in the post. I discovered by checking the source code that wp is trying to present images in a 1px by 1px size. WTF? I have my image settings much larger than that! I have manually altered and have found that I can get an image to turn up.

https://suewotton.com/wp/?p=4 is the address of the post where I managed to get an image to turn up. When I initially discovered the html error, I removed all sizing information but then it wanted to display the image at its largest possible size. There *has* to be a script error, and its affecting both upload and display of images.

Oh FYI I have no plugins active and I have installed only Akismet, but have not yet activated it.

oh oh oh!!! Try this, everyone. Go to your media settings and UNCHECK the box next to ” Crop thumbnail to exact dimensions (normally thumbnails are proportional)”

Once I had done that, uploads went as normal, and images presented as they should.

Try it and see if it helps ??

That said, it still needs fixing, something like this should not affect so much.

I have the same problem since 3.9 update. I assumed they would be making a fix for it but I guess maybe something else is happening. I am losing even more picture now. They don’t display on my blog pages.

How do I fix this please.

How do I fix this please.

Why don’t you try as I sugggested in the post *immediately* above yours. It worked for me. It might not work for you but there is no harm in trying it.

My ISP thought this was their fault do to a post they read on read write permissions. They helped me. To get it to work they had to deactivate my Smush-It plugin to make it accept uploads, however, all the images in the library appear blank.
Here is a cut and paste from Arvixe (my host).

I have investigated your WordPress and I have found that the images were not uploading to “”Uploads” folder but in “RA-uploads” folder. I have changed the upload folder to “Uploads” and by years to months settings.

I have also changed the permissions from 777 to 755 recursively.

The “WP Smush.it” is the culprit plugins which was causing the images to be appear while creating a new post.

I have deactivated it and images are now uploading successfully.

    Hello.

After uploading WordPress 3.9.1, I have “/> in the upper left hand corner of my website. I had this with the prior WordPress edition and only after installing the share button plugin did it go away. Any suggestions? Thank you.
