Can variants have variants???

  • Hello, I’m wondering if a variant can have it’s own variant. For instance, there is only one variant box for a product and it has two options. 1 of which will do nothing but the other will prompt 2 (or more) more variant fields to show up.
    I can explain specifically what I’m trying to do but I thought that would be even more confusing then the above. Hopefully that is enough to find an answer.
    By the way I have successfully moved a variant category (along with it’s variants) under another category. Then when I go into my product it shows up the way I thought it should AND I’m able to select the different variants I want BUT only the variants that are 1 level deep show up, not the 2nd level variant category or it’s variants (3rd level).

    Is this regarding a particular theme or plugin?

    Yes, I use the twenty eleven theme and I think the variant option came with that theme. I do have a plug in to reorder the variant options within a specific variant category but I don’t think that has anything to do with this issue.

    I sell refurbished iPhones. You’ll notice the iPhones are in order and all of them are good up until the iPhone 5. I have it set up in a semi-satisfactory way now but you’ll notice that I have to explain how to use the variants. What I would like to happen is if the customer chooses one of the 2 used options in the first drop down then that will be it. They will never see the other two variant boxes. However if they choose refurbished then the other two boxes will appear so they may choose their colors.

    Just to clear up why the other phones are good but the 5 and 5S are not, we only sell refurbished versions of the others. Since the 5 and 5S are still new we offer used versions of those phones. So we are just now running into this issue.
