• My paste-from-Word radio button has disappeared. I only paste as text.
Now when I paste from word there are faint lines bordering the text like a sort of box and when I add the ‘Featured image’ it moves all the text to the right so that it is half in the right side bar and absolutely unreadable.
Does anyone have suggestions for solving this?
I have three articles ready to go but I can’t publish right now.

Here is a link to a screenprint of what is happening…….

That’s because you don’t need it anymore. You can just paste straight in from Word.

Yes I can paste from Word but the result is not pretty.

It is surrounding the text in some sort of box formatting (you can see thin lines in the WordPress post editor)

The image I pasted was the result after uploading the featured image.

If WordPress’ text editor wasn’t so bad I’d use that but it is awful to use.

    I only paste as text.

Toggle “Paste as Text” off in the Visual editor.

I don’t know what the designers of WordPress were thinking of when they removed compatibility with Microsoft Word but I’ve had a nightmare day attempting to circumvent their actions.

You can’t just paste from Word it doesn’t work.

I’ve tried Windows Live Writer but it’s pants too. It has no instruction and it has a forum that is read only, you cannot contribute to it.

I’m wondering if I can move my website to another platform maybe Blogger or something else?

They didn’t. They improved it. Now all you have to do is paste your content in.

@esmi if you paste from Word directly in to WordPress it messes up all the formatting.

Until this latest update it worked brilliantly.

Now I’m having to paste articles in to Notepad, in the process losing all my formatting and then having to add it again with WordPress’ awful formatting options.

It now takes a lot longer to publish and the result doesn’t look anywhere near as good.

i am wondering if anyone has found a way to circumvent this? Is there a plugin perhaps or a way to make WordPress formatting to work more like Microsoft Word?

Here is an example of the problems I now encounter.

The link below is to an article I’ve just published.

I spent around 2 hours trying to format it properly so that i have proper paragraphs but WordPress chooses when I can and when i can’t have paragraphs. I can hit return as many times as I want and sometimes I get a space between paragraphs, sometimes I don’t.

    See here……

    So frustrating I could cry!

I am so frustrated too. Just pasting DOESN’T work — all table formatting is lost. Why doesn’t the message that says “try turning this option off” tell you how to turn it off??
I am going to try to revert to an older version of WordPress.

    @dice2dice

If you switch from the visual to text editor, you can wrap each paragraph in opening and closing html paragraph tags:

    <p>Your paragraph is here</p>

This will create the paragraphs spacings you are missing as a temporary solution.

Thx, but that isn’t practical for a large table with so many tags. I have to paste into an HTML editor, then copy the HTML and paste that into WordPress in text mode, as you suggest.
Of course, WordPress doesn’t recognize all the HTML tags, so that still isn’t a great solution.
Why, why, why did they remove the option to “Paste From WORD”??

Hello….can you help me with beginning to upgrade my old website? Thanks, John

Now the import is UTTERLY BROKEN. You can paste in from Word, that’s true. You can save/publish — once.

But God help you if you need to re-enter the Visual Editor to fix a typo, change a word, add a space, or any other tiny edit. The Visual Editor will TRASH ALL FORMATTING AND RUN ALL TEXT TOGETHER INSTANTLY AND YOU’LL BE LEFT WITH A SINGLE UNFORMATTED PARAGRAPH. The whole piece, say 3000 words, will be jammed together in one giant paragraph.

It’s crazy. I suspect there is some reason WP did this, like some financial reason, some argument with Microsoft, some self-serving explanation for such a really stupid change in what used to be the premier . . .

Oh, never mind. If WP does not re-implement the MS Word paste button and related controls I will have to find a new program that supports my 1000s of pages magazine Web site. I am really mad now, boy. Really.
